Yummy Broccoli and Baby Corn

This is a quick and simple recipe of broccoli and baby corn. You can use any single or combination of veggies for the dish.

It has broccoli stir-fried with spices such as garlic, sesame seeds, and crushed red pepper. A tasty and healthy dish.

Broccoli florets: about half a pound
Baby corn: about 10
Garlic: 3-4 cloves – according to your taste
Onion: 1 small
Sesame seeds (Til/Ellu): 1 teaspoon
Crushed red pepper (or red chilly powder): ½ teaspoon
Black pepper powder: a pinch
Salt to taste (optional – Yes, it tastes good without salt!)
Cooking oil: 1 teaspoon

  1. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets. Wash thoroughly in water.
  2. Cut the baby corn too into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Finely chop the garlic. Slice the onion julienne-style.
  4. Heat the oil in a large frying pan (kadhai). When the oil is well-heated, add the sesame seeds as tempering.
  5. When the seeds are roasted and begin to pop, add the chopped garlic and crushed red pepper. Sauté the garlic till its starts turning brown.
  6. Now, add the onion and fry till it is soft and turns translucent. Mix in the black pepper powder.
  7. Add the broccoli and baby corn to this mixture and stir well to coat the seasoning.
  8. Cover and cook on a low-medium flame till done. You may sprinkle water, if the veggies tend to stick to the vessel.
  9. When the veggies are done, add salt if you wish. I prefer it plain without salt as it brings out the sweetness of the veggies better. Trust me, the vegetable does taste good without salt!
  10. The yummy broccoli and baby corn is ready to serve and eat.
